Well, it appears as if it is (fairly) unanimous. While most of us admit that we would LIKE to know what the patterns are for the year, we acknowledge that A) we like surprises, B) we would probably knit ahead if we did know, and/or C) we might get scared if we knew them all ahead of time! So, here is what I will do.

Around this time each month, I will post the information to let you know the supplies that we will need for the next month’s pattern. I will give you the information on needle size, gauge, and yarn that the designer used. I will also give you the information (based on Rav/blog research) what yarns others have knit the same pattern with (this will be hard on some because some of them very few people have knitted! I realize that if you were REALLY impatient, you could do enough research to figure out what the pattern will be, but I figure if you want to know that bad, more power to you. 😉

For THIS month, I will not only give you the information on June’s pattern (which is really not a big shock seeing as its a basic sock tutorial), but I will also give you the information on the 13th pattern so that you can start gathering the supplies for that, should you so desire. On June 1st, I will reveal the 13th pattern as well as the June pattern. So, here goes!!!

Yarn: Sock yarn

Needles: 2.5mm

Gauge: 7.5 stitches/inch in stockinette stitch

My personal recommendations: Really any sock yarn that you want to use here is great as long as you get gauge. Self-striping, solid, or hand painted, doesn’t really matter. I plan on using my hand-dyed sock yarn for this pattern, simply because my husband is using some on his (yes, he knits and is doing his first sock too!!!) and I want to use some on mine too.

Year long pattern (there is intentionally two sets of info, as there are two options for the 13th pattern based on personal preference):

Yarn: Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock (3 skeins) OR Cherry Tree Hill Sockittome (1 skein)

Needles: US#1/2.25mm (both)

Gauge: 18sts/26.5 rows – 2″ in Stockinette stitch OR 21sts/48 rows – 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Notions: Cable needle, tapestry needle

Yarn substitutions: Pattern A: Knit Picks Essentials, Koigu (KPPPM).

Pattern B: ONLine Supersocke, Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock, Blue Moon Fiber Arts Socks That Rock Lightweight, Crystal Palace Yarns Panda Cotton, ShibuiKnits Sock, Numma Numma ToastyBOO (The Loopy Ewe), Woolly Boully Softy Sock, Colinette Jitterbug

My personal recommendations: Anything goes here really also, but with pattern A it seems that people have stuck to either solid yarns, or not too busy color changes (and no one has used self-striping). But you know, they are YOUR socks and you can do WHATEVER! Just have fun. Oh, and please. Do not, please do not, get scared. These patterns are our year long projects for a reason! They aren’t supposed to be a simple non-patterned sock 🙂 I plan to use a fairly non-busy or solid Lorna’s Laces for the first pattern, and a more colorful sock yarn for the second. I haven’t narrowed it down to which one yet, but I will fill you in when I do.

So there we go!!!! Can’t wait for June 1st to arrive! I think we have a fantastic group already with people trickling in as we move forward. Join anytime! Its all laid back and fun around our neck of the woods 🙂
